Lucy Buffett brought a little taste of her Gulf Coast restaurant, LuLu’s at Homeport Marina, to Atmore Thursday afternoon with a book signing at First National Bank &Trust.
Buffett visited the Atmore bank to sign her cookbook, “Crazy Sista Cooking: Cuisine &Conversation with Lucy Anne Buffett,” for her beloved fans.
Buffett is not a stranger to Atmore and the people who reside in the small community.
Buffett said she associates with many individuals from the Atmore area and even though she owns her own restaurant, she enjoys eating at one of Atmore’s very own eating establishments when she drops in.
Approximately 150 books were sold at Thursday’s book signing. According to FNB&T vice president Rene’ Godwin, proceeds from the event will go towards benefiting one of Atmore’s organizations.
Godwin said the proceeds from the “Crazy Sista Cooking” signing will go to the Atmore Visual Arts Association (AVAA). AVAA, along with Vikki Day’s Day Gallery, are presenting “Art in the Park” on June 21.
Atmore residents will enjoy the cookbook for many reasons, Buffett said.
Buffett’s “Crazy Sista Cooking” includes not only recipes for cooking, but also many of Buffett’s experiences. The first line Buffett wrote in the book is, “This is not your basic ‘how to’ cookbook. I like to think of it more as a visit to my kitchen.”
There are many recipes in the book and Buffett likes to tell a story with most. Buffett includes many types of recipes for every type of food lover in “Crazy Sista Cooking.” She includes the “LuLu Essentials,” which has recipes for different types of marinades and seasonings. The book includes specialty drinks, which has everything from “Bama Breeze” to “The Mo-Perfect Margarita” to “LuLu’s Rum Punch.” Those who enjoy throwing a good party could utilize Buffett’s “Starters &Snacks” section, which includes recipes like “L.A. (Lower Alabama) Caviar,” “Sloppy Shrimp” and “Lucy B. Goode’s Crabcakes.”
In “Crazy Sista Cooking” there is a section entitled “Gumbo Love &Other Deep South Soups,” which includes “LuLu’s Summer Seafood Gumbo” and “Shrimp and Crab Bisque.”
There is a section dedicated to a variety of salads, sandwiches and of course desserts for individuals with a sweet tooth.
Buffett even includes a section entitled “Child’s Play,” which is dedicated to youngsters. This section entails foods like “Wee Burgers,” “Toad-N-A-Hole Eggs” and “Summer Strawberry Thumbprint Cookies.”
Buffett said she chose to write a cookbook because of her experience in the kitchen.
