Grand slam hurts Lady Devils; swept in tourney

The Escambia County High School Lady Devils had a tough weekend as they dropped five straight games including four games in a tournament on Saturday.
On Friday, the Lady Cougars were held scoreless as Robertsdale took a 5-0 victory.
The game was very close as neither team had found a way to score until Robertsdale hit a grand slam homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning and then tacked on one more to secure the win.
Melissa Jones suffered the loss but pitched well as she threw the complete game and gave up only one earned run. She allowed five hits and one walk while striking out eight batters.
Jones also did well at the plate as she led ECHS batters with two hits. Katie Lambert, Hannah Rigsby and Rachel Garrett all had one hit each.
Crestview 2, ECHS 1
The first game of a weekend tournament was another close game for the Lady Blue Devils, but once again they were on the short end of the stick as they fell 2-1 to Crestview.
Jones pitched another strong game, but suffered the loss. She pitched six innings allowing only two hits, two walks and no earned runs. She also struck out nine Crestview batters.
Hope Riley led the way at the plate going one for two with an RBI. Natasha Porter, Katie Lambert, Shanna McMillan all had one hit in the game.
Fairhope 6, ECHS 4
Fairhope edged the Lady Blue Devils in the second game of the tourney, 6-4.
Jones showed a bit more vulnerability, but still kept her team in the game. She gave up 11 hits and gave up four earned runs. She only walked one batter and struck out seven in the loss.
Katie Lambert led ECHS batters as she went two for three and drove in two runs. Natasha Porter went two for four.
Tate 7, ECHS 2
Tate dealt the Lady Devils their third straight loss in the tournament as they defeated ECHS 7-2.
Jones suffered the loss on the mound as she pitched seven innings and gave up eight hits and only one earned run. She walked one batter and struck out four.
Tate shut down the Lady Devils' batters as they only gave up two hits. Natasha Porter and Hope Riley were the only Devils to earn hits.
McGill-Toolen 4, ECHS 2
In the final game of the tournament, McGill-Toolen defeated the Lady Blue Devils 4-2 in a game that was stopped in the sixth because of rain.
Jones once again pitched well as she pitched the entire game and gave up only seven hits and one earned run. She walked one batter and struck out seven.
Cassie Lassiter led the way at the plate as she went two for two with a double. Hope Riley, Shanna McMillan and Leslie Presley each had one hit in the game.
