The Rev. Earl Stabler
DAVISVILLE, Fla. - The Rev. Earl Stabler, 92, of Davisville, Fla. passed away peacefully on June 10, 2008. He was born Nov. 2, 1915 in Uriah.
The Rev. Stabler’s wife of 55 years, Lula McDonald Stabler, and a daughter, Lula Pearl Donaldson, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his present wife, Adele Stewart Stabler; nine children, Laura (Marvin) Beck of Pensacola, Fla., Edna (Carl) Heskett of Pensacola, Fla., Lyndia (Wendell) Wearren of Monroeville, Myrtle (Ronald) King of Arab, Judson (Ginger) Stabler of Davisville, Fla., Elizabeth (Charles) Davis of Auburn, Ronald (Linda) of Bratt, Fla., Deborah (Mason) Stabler of Atmore and Jacquelyn Carlee of Atmore and three stepchildren, Jerry (Carol) Stewart, Elaine (Mike) Bray, the late Eugene (Kay) Stewart and their families, all of Rabun. The Rev. Stabler had numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2008. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2008.
The Rev. Stabler’s grandsons served as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Tom Fillingham and Raymond Kimmons.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
Voncille Odom Shipp
CANOE - Mrs. Voncille Odom Shipp, 79, passed away on June 13, 2008 at her home in Canoe after an extended illness. She was born near Barnett’s Crossroads on Nov. 29, 1928 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Rual Odom Sr.
Mrs. Shipp’s husband, Riley Benjamin Shipp; two sisters, Frances Odom Crutchfield and Opal Odom Smith; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wilbur Thomas Shipp and Juanita Kirkland Shipp and one niece, Linda Smith Phillips, preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Elaine Shipp of Canoe; one sister, Charlotte Odom Williams (Billy) of Walnut Hill, Fla.; two brothers, Rual Odom Jr. (Jackie) of Lakeland, Fla. and Leo Thomas Odom (Shirley) of Atmore; two brothers-in-law, Leslie Thomas Crutchfield of Atmore and Joel Smith of Canoe; five nieces, Sherry Shipp Smith (John) of Cantonment, Fla., Janet Smith McCullough (Randy) of Austin, Texas, Melanie Bell Crocker (George) of Rivers, Texas, Diane Odom Wright (Dale) of Lakeland, Fla., Angie Donaldson Anderson (Dale) of Excel; six nephews, Lavon Wesley Smith (Cynthia) of Cantonment, Fla. Daniel Odom (Ann) and Tony Odom (Marcie) of Lakeland, Fla., Kenneth Odom of Pensacola, Fla., Tony Odom of Atmore and Jason Donaldson of Spanish Fort.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Petty Eastside Chapel with the Rev. Earl Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at Canoe Freewill Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Petty Eastside Chapel.
Active pallbearers will be Lavon Smith, Jason Donaldson, Tony Odom, Kenneth Odom, Alex Jones and Richard Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be Janice Peterson, Lynn Barnes, Carol Elkins, Tracie James, Joan Jones, Meg Jones, Mary McClelland and Margaret Wilson.
A special thanks to caregivers Patsy Alverson, Vickie Boyette and Margie Hardy Harper and Covenant Hospice of Brewton.
Mrs. Shipp loved flowers and the family will graciously accept floral tributes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice of Brewton, 1023 Douglas Ave., Suite 204, Brewton, AL. 36426.
Petty Eastside Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
