Seven teams teed off last Friday at the Atmore Country Club for the Relay for Life golf tournament hosted by Frontier.
The tournament benefited Relay for Life, which is an organization that helps raise money to find a cure for cancer.
The tournament was a four-man scramble with first, second and closest to the pin being awarded cash prizes.
Sue Dortch, director of the tournament, said she thinks the tournament went well after being rained out during the month of May.
Rain actually aided the tournament by allowing a few new teams to sign up and allowed Frontier to add more sponsors as well.
Dortch said the tournament did well in raising money for Relay for Life and thanked all golfers for taking the time out of their day to play in the tournament.
First place in the tournament went to the Diamond Gasoline team who shot a 50. Jennifer White, Mitch White, Tommy White and R.P. Phillips represented the winning team, which received $500.
Second place and $300 was awarded to the Dwight W. Prouty Co. represented by Caleb Dortch, Mark Dortch, Randy Dortch and Myles Hollingsworth who together shot a 53.
A cash prize of $130 was also awarded to the player who landed closest to the pin and Bradley Flowers won that honor.
Dortch said she appreciates all the help from tournament sponsors as well as team sponsors.
Dortch said she would like to thank the hole sponsors, which includes Frontier, Atmore Nursing Center, David’s Paint &Body, Gregg’s Salon, Scott’s Pharmacy, Tammie’s Cuttin Loose Salon, Farmer’s Insurance, State Line Pawn Shop, Gulf Winds Credit Union, “Atmore News,” Johnson’s Siding, H &H Electric, Trawick Construction Co., The Atmore Advance, Diamond Gasoline, Dwight W. Prouty Co., Jerry’s Alignment Center, United Bank and First National Bank &Trust.
Dortch wished a special thanks to the Atmore Country Club and all tournament participants.
Also Jody Dortch for directing the tournament and Walt Butler, Cereal Daniel and Sandra Johnson for cooking and assisting with lunch; Webb Nall and Pepsi and Rebecca at the Custom Sign Shop as well.
Dortch also said she wanted to thank several businesses for their support, including Trawick Construction Co., Atmore News/Grace Publishing, Pintoli’s Restaurant, David’s Catfish, The Tot Shop, Jus’ Because, Chen’s Buffet, Grand Seafood Buffet, Jerry’s Alignment Center, Winn Dixie, Alabama Telco Credit Union, Atmore Advance, First National Bank &Trust, United Bank, Gulf Winds Credit Union, CMI Services, Inc., The Beans Store, Chuck Stevens Chevrolet and Frontier Communications.
