Cobb: One of first members at SAIL Center

(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights 94-year-old Nobie Cobb. Cobb has been a member of the Huxford SAIL Center ever since its creation more than 20 years ago.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born in Monroe Co. on Sept. 22, 1913.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: John Wesley Johnson and Laura Gandy Johnson.
Q: What did your parents do for a living?
A: Farmed.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: There were 12. There were nine girls and three boys. I’m the youngest and the only one living.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: I finished high school in Flomaton in 1931.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: Yes.
Q: Where have you traveled?
A: I’ve been to England, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. I went to visit my daughter in England and we went on a tour to all these places.
Q: Where was your favorite place you visited?
A: Switzerland because it was so clean and pretty.
Q: Where did you work?
A: I ran Frosty Acres Cafe for about 10 to 15 years.
Q: Where have you lived?
A: Just here and Flomaton and when I first got married I lived in Ohio. I came back here in 1937.
Q: What do you like most about Atmore?
A: I like coming to the (Huxford SAIL) Center here.
The people are real friendly. I’ve lived here a long time so I know a lot of people.
Q: Did you ever marry?
A: I married Clyde Purnell. When he died I married Bernie Cobb.
Q: Do you have children?
A: Three. The oldest is Ronald Clyde Purnell. He lives in Clarksville, Tenn. Kay Mason is my daughter, she lives in Huxford. Ralph Purnell lives in St. Francisville, La.
Q: Do you have any grandchildren?
A: I have five grandchildren and about 12 great grandchildren.
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: Going to the center and visiting with my daughter.
Q: How long have you been a member of the Huxford SAIL Center?
A: I’ve been a member ever since it started.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: I watch the soap operas in the afternoon and Fox News and “The Price Is Right.”
Q: What advice would you like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Eat right and exercise a lot.
