The Poarch Band of Creek Indians celebrated their sovereignty Saturday with an annual Tribal celebration at Magnolia Branch Wildlife Reserve.
Magnolia Branch general manager Billy Smith said many people showed up to celebrate the Poarch Creek Indians.
Smith said those who attended the event had a fun time tubing down the creek and playing fun games like horseshoes.
Smith said the event is held each year to celebrate when the Tribe became federally recognized on Aug. 11, 1984.
This was the 24th year the Tribe has celebrated recognition and Smith said it was the fourth year the celebration has been held at Magnolia Branch.
Magnolia Branch Wildlife Reserve is located at 24 Big Creek Road in Atmore.
There are several amenities at Magnolia Branch, including 40 campsites with water and electricity, 16 campsites with full hook-up, primitive campsites, dump station, bathhouse with hot showers, laundry room, three group pavilions with tables, fishing, hiking trails, horseback riding trails and much more.
