She and schoolmate Artemus Wiggins, a sixth grader, were at the SAIL center to present comfort kits made by them and their fellow students to the senior citizens.
The kits were made by joint effort with the middles school and Escambia County Red Cross.
Red Cross volunteer Sandra Grey was there to assist in the delivery.
Each kit contained standard toiletry items along with flashlights and adhesive bandages.
When Grey asked how many of the people there that day had disaster kits at home only two of around 45 said they did.
All merchandise was donated from area businesses and SAIL Center director Charlotte Purvis said they were very appreciative of the kits and that they would be essential for the senior citizens.
Purvis also said the kits are not just for practicality but for what they do for both the children and the senior citizens.”
“I think it teaches children to care for the elderly. When a younger person comes in to do something for them it makes their day to know that the younger generation is thinking of them,” she said.
