Frances Bertram Cryar
BIRMINGHAM – Frances Bertram Cryar, formerly of Birmingham, died Sunday, March 11, 2007 at her residence in Atmore. Mrs. Cryar was born in Steele on January 20, 1923 and was the only child of the late Clarence and Eula Bertram.
Mrs. Cryar graduated from Etowah County High School and received a BS Degree from the University of Alabama. She resided in Birmingham most of her life. She was an active member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church where she was an ordained elder. She was past President of the Optimrs Club, the Birmingham Veterinary Medicine Auxiliary and also the Alabama State Veterinary Medicine Auxiliary. She was a member of the Concordia Literary Club, Hillside Garden Club and Cherokee Rose Garden Club.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Steele Community Cemetery in Steele. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Birmingham. The family will visit with friends and relatives immediately following the memorial service.
Survivors include: husband of 56 years, Dr. W. Ross Cryar of Atmore; two daughters, and sons-in-laws, Emily and P.D. Pollard of Atmore and Malia and Gerald Shelton of Milton, Fla.; three grandchildren, Spec. Joseph Duncan Pollard, US Army, Iraq; David Ross Lee and Anna Frances Lee of Milton, Fla.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home and Johns-Ridouts Valley Chapel are in charge of arrangements.
Emmitt R. McDonald
ATMORE – Mr. Emmitt R. McDonald, 80, of Atmore. died Monday, March 12, 2007, at his residence. He was a retired Metal Smith with the Pensacola Naval Air Station. He was born in Frisco City. on May 15, 1926, to the late John Clyde and Icy Irene Stacey McDonald. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou McDonald. Survivors are, one son, Charles "Doodle" McDonald and wife Charlotte of Atmore; one sister, Joyce Russell of Oak Grove, Fla.; two grandchildren, Mark McDonald of Atmore and Jason McDonald and wife Tracey of Pensacola, Fla.; and four great-grandchildren, Alex McDonald, Aaron McDonald, Bryant McDonald and Jackson McDonald.
Services will be Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home chapel with Brother Jimmy Dukes officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Atmore. Pallbearers are Ron Moxness, David Lambert, Gilbert Gorum, Andrew Gorum, Jr., Butch Black and Scotty Baker. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening, March 13, 2007, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. in charge of all arrangements.
Barbara Jean Johnson
MONTGOMERY – Mrs. Barbara Jean Johnson, 74, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007 in Shreveport, La.
Mrs. Johnson was a native of Wildee, Ky., and a resident of Montgomery for the past eight years. She retired from Arrow Head Manor Assisted Living after a number of years, also from working with disabled persons after 30 years, and attended the Protestant Church. Preceded in death by a son, Lester Raymond "Butch" Johnson.
Survivors include: the father of her children, Floyd Johnson of Clanton; two daughters, Regina and Bob Lowry of Shreveport, La., and Tonya and Michael Holley of Titus; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, Russell Ballinger of Shreveport, La.; a special niece, Betty Jane Peterson of Prescott, Ariz.; and a good friend, Vernon "Pete" Luckett of Montgomery.
Graveside services were held Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Johnson Cemetery.
Eunice M. Phillips
ROBERTSDALE – Eunice M. Phillips, 91, of Bay Minette and resident of Robertsdale died Saturday, March 10, 2007.
Survivors include; her daughter, Laura (Bill) Fancher of Daphne; sisters, Edwina C. Mullins of Mobile and Johnnie Stutts of Meridian, Miss.; granddaughters, Alaina McDonald of Bay Minette and April Hammond of Gulf Shores and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Bay Minette with the visitation starting at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the building fund of the First United Methodist Church in Bay Minette or to the Audubon Society.

Billy Ray Smith
ROCKY HILL – Mr. Billy Ray Smith, 72, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2007 in Mobile.
Mr. Smith was a native of Rocky Hill, a resident of Rocky Hill for most of his life. He attended the Rocky Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was a US Navy retiree of 21 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was a Safety Director for Brown and Root, B E &K, Parsons- Whitmore. His father, Comer Smith, preceded him in death.
Survivors include: his mother, Ruth Smith of Rocky Hill; his wife, Cora Smith of Rocky Hill; two sons, Mike Smith (Sharon) of Excel, Billy Smith of Rocky Hill; one daughter, Robin S. Durrance of Rocky Hill; two sisters, Betty De Fee of Rocky Hill, Debbie Bowen of Rocky Hill; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Rocky Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Bohannon and the Rev. Pete Dunn officiating.
Burial will follow at Rocky Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2007 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Danny Smith, B.J. Smith, Matthew Smith, Tricia Smith, Adam Smith and LyAnne Durrance.
