The Burger King on South Main Street was robbed at gunpoint at 5 a.m. Monday morning, Atmore Police Department investigators said.
According to investigators, the armed assailant, described by witnesses as a black male wearing a mask and wearing dark clothing, demanded money from store employees and fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Store employees tripped a panic alarm, which, according to APD dispatch logs, was received at 5:01 a.m. Officers arrived on the scene at 5:02 a.m. and were told that the robber ran in a westerly direction.
Tracking dogs from Fountain Prison were called to the scene and initially located a trail, but lost it in the vicinity of Trinity Episcopal Church located on South Carney Street.
Officers have been seen keeping a close patrol on the fast food restaurant this morning.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Atmore Police Department at 368-9141.
