Atmore opens area play, lose at Vigor

Escambia County opened up area play Tuesday night on the road in Vigor and the Blue Devils were sent back to Atmore with a 48-40 loss to the Wolves.
The Blue Devils (6-7, 0-1) went point-for-point with their area rival early, but were put away in the second half.
Blue Devils Head Coach Tim Moorer said his team played well for the early quarters, but could not finish strong.
Escambia County was led in the game by guard Cedric Pierce’s 17 points. Pierce also recorded three assists, two rebounds and one steal in the loss.
The Blue Devils played close with Vigor in the first quarter, but gave the Wolves an early lead as they were outscored 14-10.
Atmore fought back in the second quarter putting up 11 points, while only giving up seven to Vigor, which sent the teams to the locker room tied 21-21 at the half.
After halftime, the Wolves put the Blue Devils away outlasting and outscoring Escambia County in both quarters.
Vigor took the lead in the third quarter and never looked back. They outscored the Blue Devils 12-7 in the period following halftime.
In the final period, the Blue Devils were unable to mount a comeback as Vigor scored 17 points to Atmore’s 12 giving the Wolves a 48-40 victory.
Moorer said missed shots and missing players hurt his team in the loss.
Blue Devils recording stats included forwarad Dalvin Craft with 10 points, 11 rebounds and two steals; forward Eric Davis scoring seven points with one assist; Devante Brown with three points and six rebounds and Rayvon Madison with two points and three assists.
The Blue Devils next game is Jan. 12 at Spanish Fort. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m.
