A tropical depression that formed earlier this week northeast of Cuba in the Atlantic Ocean has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Bonnie, according to the National Weather Service’s Hurricane Center.
With the storm eying the Gulf of Mexico, local emergency management officials are keeping close tabs on the storm’s path. The storm could enter the Gulf of Mexico late today or early Saturday.
“Long range predictions have the storm passing across the Gulf to Louisiana or Texas,” Escambia County Emergency Management Director David Adams said. “It is still too early to have a great deal of confidence of the track of this storm. Once it reaches the Gulf, it can impact any portion of the Gulf Coast.”
Adams encouraged residents to keep an eye on the storm and to review emergency plans.
