Greenlawn opens Babe Ruth beating Carney Lodge

Atmore Babe Ruth Baseball opened with a bang Monday night as Greenlawn Home Health beat Carney Lodge #549 9-7 at Tom Byrne Park.

Greenlawn needed a late game surge to pick up the win scoring six of their runs in the top of the sixth inning after trailing Carney Lodge 6-3 before the inning started. The strong inning saw Tristan McAnally (1-for-4, R), Joseph Parker (3-for-4, R), Cody Nolin (3-for-4, R), Trey Weekes (2-for-3, R), Arri Torres (1-for-2, R) and Michael Coker (0-for-2, R) each making it around the basepath to score giving Greenlawn a 9-6 lead.

Carney Lodge was able to get Brodie Dortch (0-for-1, R) aross the plate in their final at-bat, but they would fall short of the comeback as Greenlawn won their first game.

The game was scoreless through the first three innings before Carney Lodge broke the tie in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead 4-0 with Kevin Vaughn (1-for-3, R), Blake McCall (1-for-3, R), Jordan Coon (1-for-3, R) and Dortch all crossing the plate.

In the top of the fifth, Greenlawn pulled within one run of Carney Lodge with Parker, Nolin and Billy Powell (1-for-4, R) scoring runs.

Carney Lodge made the score 6-3 in the bottom of the inning with Chasen Freeman (1-for-4, R) and Nate Smith (1-for-4, R) helping their team extend its lead over Greenlawn, who would hit their suge in the next inning and go on to win the game.
