15U All-Stars move on to state

After falling twice to Brewton, who came out of the losers’ bracket Monday night at Tom Byrne Park to win two games and claim the district championship, the Atmore 15-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars will play in the state tournament in Satsuma starting Saturday as the runner-up team to Brewton’s district championship. The tournament will last through Tuesday, July 17.

Joining Atmore in the tournament is Brewton, Satsuma, Opp, Wetumpka, Mims, Sylacauga, West Alabama, Matthews, Covington County, Tallassee, and Alexander City.

The 12 tournament teams will be divided up in three pools of four teams.

Satsuma, Opp, Wetumpka and Brewton will be in pool A while Mims, Sylacauga, Atmore and West Alabama will be in pool B. In pool C will be Matthews, Covington County, Tallassee and Alexander City.

The tournament will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. with Opp and Brewton meeting at 10 a.m. at Wright Park. Following the 10 a.m. game, Covington County and Tallassee will meet at 12:15 p.m. Wetumpka and Satsuma will play at 2:30 p.m. followed by Atmore and West Alabama at 4:45 p.m. and Satsuma and Opp at 7 p.m.

At the same times as above at Lions Park, Atmore and Mims will meet at 10 a.m. followed by Sylacauga and West Alabama at 12:15 p.m., Alexander City and Matthews at 2:30 p.m., Mims and Sylacauga at 4:45 p.m. and Wetumpka and Brewton at 7 p.m.

Sunday’s games will be at the same time as Saturday, but no 7 p.m. games will be played.

At Wright Park Sunday, Covington County and Alexander City start things off and will be followed by West Alabama and Mims, Sylacauga and Atmore and Matthews and Covington County will close games out at 4:45 p.m.

At Lions Park, Matthews and Tallassee will begin the day at 10 a.m. followed by Opp and Wetumpka at 12:15 p.m., Brewton and Satsuma at 2:30 p.m. and Tallassee and Alexander City at 4:45 p.m.

After all pool games have been played, two teams from each pool will advance to the single elimination bracket play. All games will be held at Wright Park with the top two seeds being determined by using Babe Ruth tournament rule 11.05, which each coach has been given in their packet.

All games are weather permitting and subject to change if deemed necessary.

The Monday pool play games will begin at 10 a.m. with the No. 3 seed taking on the No. 6 seed. At 12:15 p.m., the No. 4 seed will meet up with the No. 5 seed. At 2:30 p.m., the No. 2 seed will meet the winner of the No. 3 vs. No. 6 game while the No. 1 seed will play the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 game at 4:45 p.m.

The championship game will be played at Wright Park at 10 a.m.

Park rules in Satsuma ask that no coolers be allowed inside the park. A cooler will be provided in each dugout for the teams, with each team being allowed to bring one cooler; however coolers must remain in the dugout and used only by players and coaches.

No outside food or drinks are allowed in the park as well as no profanity, pets or alcohol. All parks are no smoking and any spectator, coach or player who becomes disruptive will be escorted out of the park. Police presence will be on hand.

Teams are allowed 15 minutes to warm up on the field between games.
