An Atmore man was arrested Saturday night, after reportedly shooting and robbing a man during a poker game.

Eurecka Finklea, 25, who was residing at 262 Carver Ave. at the time of his arrest, was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and first-degree possession of marijuana. He was later transferred to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.

Scott Walden, an agent with the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force, said that Atmore Police Department officers responded to a report of a man shot at the corner of Curtis and Maxwell streets, on Sunday, Jan. 25, at about 1 a.m. Walden said that there was a poker game going on in the neighborhood, and one of the players told officers he had been shot and robbed.

“Upon arriving, we spoke with the victim, 35-year-old Jerry Johnson,” Walden said. “He stated that (Finklea) fired two shots at him, striking him once in the hand. (The shot) would have hit him the face if he hadn’t put his hand up.”

Walden said that Johnson told officers Finklea then grabbed some money from Johnson’s pocket, and left the scene.

“On Tuesday, Jan. 27, Mr. Johnson and a couple of witnesses came in and identified, by photograph, Mr. Finklea as the one who did the shooting and robbery,” Walden said.

Warrants were taken out for Finklea’s arrest on Wednesday, and APD officers arrested him Saturday at 8:15 p.m. at his mother’s residence at 262 Carver Ave., Walden said.

Walden said officers found 41.8 grams of marijuana and digital scales in the Carver Avenue residence, and Finklea told officers that the drugs were his.

Walden said Finklea confessed to the drug charges, but did not confess to the shooting and robbery.
