Atmore tops Covington County 5-3 in the district title game tonight
Joseph O’Bannon hit a three-run double in the top of the fourth inning to help lead the Atmore Babe Ruth 15Us to a 5-3 win over Covington County for the district championship tonight in Brewton.
O’Bannon’s hit came with two outs and Atmore trailing 2-0.
From there, Atmore’s pitching settled in and after thwarting a squeeze from CC, the local team got the batters in order in the seventh.
O’Bannon was backed up by Kameron Bowen, who scored on a double from Dalton Kent in the top of the sixth.
Dalton Burke scored in the seventh on an error to give one more additional insurance run.
Jason Davis went 2-for-3 with two singles and a run; Cruz Odom hit a single and scored a run; Bowen went 1-for-2 with a run; and Kent had a double and an RBI to lead Atmore.
CC scored two runs in the first inning on an error and a hit from Chandler Mitchel. Mitchell went 2-for-3 with a double for the game.
Clay Ashberry went 1-for-4 with a single; Caleb Meredith went 1-for-3; Jonathan Cooley went 1-for-3; and Gabe Dunn went 1-for-3 to lead CC.
With the win, Atmore advances to the state tournament, which will begin on Thursday in Childersburg. CC also advances as it was the runner up.
