Reports are floating around the state that most, if not all, ICU beds at hospitals in Alabama are full.
According to Jason Daniel, director of public affairs and marketing for the Escambia County Healthcare Authority – which operates Atmore Community Hospital and D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital – for this county that report is mostly true.
“As of right now (Wednesday), D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital ICU is full,” Daniel said. “Atmore Community Hospital ICU has four open as of right now.”
Daniel also reported on statistics from across the state concerning admissions at hospitals in regard to COVID-19 patients.
“Based on the statistics we are being provided by the Alabama Hospital Association and the Alabama Department of Public Health, 85 percent of COVID-19 patients being admitted are not vaccinated,” Daniel said. “Each day in the last week, the State of Alabama admitted 2,500 patients per day and an average of 30 patients died each day.”
Based on the daily average of patients admitted to hospitals around the state, unvaccinated individuals far exceed the number of patients admitted who have been vaccinated.
“We urge everyone to get your COVID-19 Vaccine,” Daniel said.
